This beer came about through a collaboration with nearby Heavy Industry Brewing. The goal was to produce a modern take on the classic Pilsner style by incorporating New World hops. We felt the unique hop aromas would be complemented by some sourness and a relatively low level of alcohol. The result was a unique, cloudy beer with a tropical aroma that reminded us of papaya. So we named it after our own local beach resort: beautiful Bala Lake. Enjoy it with some pupu on your lanai. Mahalo.

Geipel Brewing Bock Bottle 500ml

The Bock style originated in 17th century Munich as a strong dark lager. Lighter (Maibock), stronger (Doppelbock) and even stronger (Eisbock) styles followed but the original Bock style remains the standard bearer for strong lagers. By definition, it must have an original gravity greater than 16.3 ºP and in practice has a high final gravity too leaving lots of flavour and sweetness. Just enough noble hops are used to balance the sweetness and thus let the flavour be dominated by malt.

Geipel Brewing Golden Gate Bottle 500ml

Golden Gate is a 'California Common' style beer: a hybrid that uses lager (bottom-fermenting) yeast but is fermented at higher ale temperatures. This style is often called “steam beer”, a name which has been trademarked by the San Francisco company that brews the best known example: Anchor Brewing. The yeast, caramel malt and assertive American hops give it a unique flavour that many credit with launching the American craft beer revolution.

Geipel Brewing Hefeweizen Bottle 500ml

“HEF-uh-VYT-zen” is the traditional cloudy wheat beer of Bavaria. “Hefe” means yeast and “weizen” means wheat in German. With at least 50% wheat malt, it has a very different flavour to barley based beers. But it’s the unique yeast that gives it a cloudy appearance and unusual flavours of banana, bubblegum, clove and coriander. The yeast is top-fermenting at ale (warm) temperatures but the results must be lagered (cold conditioned) for best results. Hefeweizens normally have low bitterness, high carbonation and taste great in the Summer with a slice of lemon.
